Join Digital Rochester for a jam-packed morning as we welcome guest speakers to teach us about working with businesses across our border! In addition we will have guest companies from Canada seeking partners, resellers and customers in Upstate NY.

Steven Tylock, board member and treasurer of Digital Rochester will moderate the following discussions:

  • Michael O’Neil, Canada’s leading IT industry analyst, will give us his perspective on the 2010 Economic Climate and Business Prospects of Partnering Across the Border.
  • Jerry Diakow, President of the IT Channel Group will discuss the small reseller perspective on Partnering with a Canadian Firm.
  • Tim McCall, Director of the US Department of Commerce Rochester Export Assistance Center, will talk about US Resources for Taking Your Business Into Canada.
  • Jay Mileham, Trade Commissioner for the Canadian Consulate General will help us understand what Canadian Companies Look for in US Partners.

And finally, we’ll offer each Canadian companies sixty seconds to give us a quick look at what they’re looking to accomplish as they move forward!

OUR SPEAKERS:

Michael O’Neil, Chief Content Officer, IT in Canada

Michael O’Neil is Canada’s leading IT industry analyst and a global expert in channel and alliance strategy, engaged with clients across North America, Asia, and in Europe.

Through the course of his career, he has led firms to leadership positions in the Canadian market, launched research projects that provide benchmark information for the Canadian IT industry, and provided guidance to the country’s leading vendors, distributors, solution providers, and corporate executives. As Managing Director for IDC Canada, Michael grew the business to one of the corporation’s largest and most influential subsidiaries.  Michael co-founded the original IT in Canada, a social media site that quickly became the “go to” Canadian resource for information on critical IT industry topics.

In December of 2008, Michael launched a joint venture research company, IT Market Dynamics, with partners CRN Canada, Information Executive Magazine (then known as Information Week Canada), and Canadian Government Executive.

Gerald (Jerry) Diakow, President, IT Channel Group

Jerry Diakow has spent over 30 years in sales, marketing and senior management positions in both public and private start-ups and large IT companies.  Various operational assignments have included positions as VP & Co-Founder Advanced Encryption Technology Inc.  President & COO Secured Services Inc , GM Control Data Cda and Country Manager OKI Cda.   General Manager, Country Manager (Canada) and Vice Presidencies in Sales, Marketing and Technology with such companies as OKI Data America and Control Data.

In 2001, Jerry founded IT Channel Group, a highly successful computer products sales and value-added distribution company providing channel sales and management services for high technology vendors in the Canadian (and now U.S.) market.

Jerry holds a BSc. in Mathematics from Brock University and a MSc. in Computer Science from University of Waterloo.

Tim McCall, Director, U.S. Department of Commerce Rochester Export Assistance Center

Tim McCall helps companies in nine Rochester-area counties enter new export markets as an international trade resource. Tim has an extensive international business background in both the public and private sectors.

Having spent almost 20 years in international sales, marketing, and sales management in the Fluid Power/Hydraulics industry, Tim also served six years as an International Trade Representative for the Kansas Department of Commerce.  Focusing on their Europe Office, Tim assisted Kansas manufacturing and services companies in international trade.

With the U.S Department of Commerce as an International Trade Specialist for the last year and a half, Tim helps Rochester-area companies enter and grow their export markets.

Jay Mileham, Trade Commissioner, Canadian Consulate General

A native of Buffalo, New York, Jay Mileham graduated from State University of New York at Buffalo with a BS degree in Industrial Technology. Mr. Mileham is the Business Development Officer at the Canadian Consulate General in Buffalo, New York responsible for advanced technologies (information and communications technologies and advanced manufacturing). At the Consulate he facilitates outsourcing, strategic alliances and technology transfer between Canadian and U.S. companies and institutions. His background includes managerial experience in sales, marketing and engineering in the plastics, metals and nuclear industries. During his career he worked for a small business that grew to a Fortune 500 company and successfully participated in a turnaround with a medium sized company.
